Hagiography

Guru Jambheshwar, also known as Guru Jambhaji, was the founder of the Bishnoi Panth, a religious sect. He lived from 1451 to 1536 and taught the belief in a divine power that is present everywhere. He emphasized the importance of protecting plants and animals in order to coexist peacefully with nature. Guru Jambheshwar was born in the village of Pipasar in Rajasthan and spent the early years of his life as a cow herder. At the age of 34, he founded the Bishnoi sub-sect and preached for the next 51 years, producing verses known as Shabadwani. The Bishnoi Panth follows 29 principles, which include the preservation of biodiversity, good animal husbandry, healthy social behavior, personal hygiene, and daily worship of Vishnu. The Bishnoi community considers the "Mukam Mukti Dham" temple in Mukam, Rajasthan, as their holiest site. Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in Hisar, Haryana, is named after him in his honor.
